Glowing UV inks and interactive hidden puzzles

This book is more than just an exciting fantasy adventure novel. Once you’ve finished the story, you can try to solve the book’s secrets and puzzles—just like in an escape game. Special magic inks were used in the printing process, which, for example, only become visible under UV light, glow in the dark, or magically disappear.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS about RUNED

At what age is RUNED suitable?

The RUNED series is aimed at children aged 10 to 12. It contains thrilling and scary elements as well as juvenile language with occasional strong language that is authentic at this age. The story is a fully-fledged fantasy novel that will also captivate adult readers.

 

Age recommendations for books are voluntary and comparable to age ratings for movies. For example, films such as Star Wars, Spider-Man, The Lord of the Rings, The Chronicles of Narnia, Percy Jackson and Indiana Jones are all rated 12 and over. Harry Potter also has a recommendation from 6 or 12 years, depending on the volume.

Do I need a UV lamp for the hidden RUNED puzzles?

A UV lamp or black light lamp is recommended for the full RUNED experience. From the 2nd edition of RUNED 1 and with RUNED 2, an exclusive RUNED UV lamp is included in the package free of charge.

 

UV lamps are also available in stores, for example on Amazon for between 8 and 20 euros. We have already tested several models, including this one*. Alternatively, natural sunlight also contains UV radiation, but the effect is not as intense. The puzzles can theoretically also be solved without UV light, but without the full WOW effect.

Why won't the RUNED magic inks work for me?

The three magic inks in the RUNED universe react differently depending on light and temperature.

 

Heat-sensitive ink
This ink disappears at temperatures above 29°C and becomes visible again at colder temperatures.

At the height of summer, the ink may not return as long as it is too warm.
In winter, the ink has to reach at least 29°C to disappear.
If your fingers are too cold, the ink will not work by hand. Instead, use a heater or a hairdryer at a sufficient distance.
⚠ Caution: Never heat book pages with an open fire - fire hazard!

RUNED 2 does not contain this heat-sensitive ink.

 

The two UV inks

Ink A: This ink only glows in the dark after it has been charged with a UV lamp.
Ink B: This ink is only visible under direct UV radiation, but does not glow in the dark.

If the inks do not react as expected, check the lighting conditions and temperature. Have fun discovering the hidden clues!

Yes, in RUNED 2 you can once again expect an interactive treasure hunt, this time with several prizes and a new mechanic. More details will be announced on release.
